A Simple Decorative Piece

Thanks to pinterest.com, I've been trying out tons of little fixes around the home. Most recently I’ve repurposed an old candle jar and turned it into my new q-tip holder!

The directions I followed can be found on this website and they are summarized below as well.
Freeze jar overnight to loosen candle remnants

Use a butter knife to break up remaining candle pieces

Peel off label and wash jar

Ta-da!  The finished product!!

Homemade Macaroni and Cheese

Last week one of my colleagues informed us that during the heat wave he would be bringing in homemade ice-cream cake for the team.  I was ecstatic and immediately decided that we need to have a meal to go with it!  I decided to opt for Macaroni and Cheese – an easy comfort food!  I am pleased to report that the mac and cheese (and yummy ice-cream cake) was a big hit!
Ingredients:
  • ¼ cup butter or margarine
  • ¼ cup flower
  • 1 cup milk
  • 8 oz Velvetta pasteurized prepared cheese product – cut into ½ inch cubes
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, cooked and drained
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Bread crumbs or crushed ritz crackers
Directions:
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Melt 3 Tbsp butter in medium saucepan on medium heat. Whisk in flour, cook for 2 minutes stirring constantly. Gradually stir in milk and cook until mixture boils and thickens, stirring constantly. Add Velveeta, cook 3 minutes or until melted, stirring frequently. Stir in macaroni.
  • Spoon into casserole dish (spray with non stick cooking spray), sprinkle with cheddar cheese, remaining butter and sprinkle cracker/bread crumbs on top
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until heated
  • Enjoy!!

Like This Try That, Volume 2

Hi all!  Here is Andrew for the second round of 'Like This Try That'!

Alexa

I’m back! This week I am hear to tell you to swap “Boyfriend” by Justin Bieber (or any Bieber song for that matter) and add a new artist that is soon to be a chart smasher here in the United States. His name is Conor Maynard, he is big in the UK, and the song is called “Can’t Say No”.  Obsession does not even begin to cover the love I have for this song. Give it a try and tell me you cannot deny this undeniable late summer smash.  Until next time…fix your playlists and keep on coming back every week for my suggestion as to what you NEED to be listening too.

Subtle Accents

I'm not the queen of subtlety in any sort of way. When I wear jewelry, especially necklaces, I like to layer them, one necklace is too boring for my taste. Hence, I've been on the hunt for pieces with different chain lengths so that different ones can be worn together. During such a search, I discovered this necklace at Nordstrom, which has two chains that come together at the clasp. The chain is rose gold, and the accents are silver. I love this necklace because it does the job of layering with one piece (however, it would still look great with another piece!). Even when worn alone, it looks so dainty, but not boring at all. The lightweight feel and look of this necklace is great for the summer weather!

Headbands, Headbands, Headbands, Again.

Its no surprise that I love headbands, I’ve spoken of them many times. Once again, I have to give credit where credit is due, Blair Waldorf changed the game for hair accessories. Any who, with that being said, I purchased a gold, beaded, knot headband from Nordstrom a few weeks ago. I wear this headband at least once a week, it actually matches with everything. I love this accessory so much that I recently headed back to Norstrom and bought it in black. Now I have a headband for every day of the week!

A Tank Situation

The summer weather has finally kicked in, and already I’m starting to get sick of it. The upside to this crazy hot weather is that it simply necessitates a tank top and shorts and your ready to go. I’ve recently acquired some great tanks and I just cant wait to show them off. I’ve picked my three favorites, they are three very different tops but they are perfect in every way!

1. This shirt I bought at Nordstrom. I love it because it’s silk, and because of its colors. The yellow is lighter on the sides of the stripe, and it gets progressively darker as it reaches the middle.

2. This shirt is Free People. I love it because it is so big and flowey that it can be thrown on, and very quickly be accessorized for the daytime, or for the nighttime.

3. This shirt is from Nordstrom as well. I didn’t like this shirt at first, the horses on it really threw me off. What I did like about it was the peter pan like collar, and the open back. Once I put this shirt on, it was clear that it was a keeper, and I’m learning to love the horses.

Independence Day Treat

Earlier today I was feeling inspired and wanted to put that energy to use in the kitchen.  Unfortunately I was lacking in the time department and decided that instead of baking something from scratch I would turn to the always reliable Pillsbury break and bake sugar cookies.  I glammed them up a little with red sugary sprinkles and placed them in a small shirt box.  I added some more glitz to the box by using stamps and silver ink to spell out ‘Happy 4th of July’ and finally topped everything off with festive blue and red curling ribbon.  It is amazing what a few little resources from around the house can do to dress up simple sugar cookies!

Eyebrow Miracle

 Before

After

I am pleased to introduce you to my new brow pencil – Anastasia! Lately I have been watching a lot of makeup tutorials on YouTube and have started to notice that brows really do frame your face. I have been blessed with full dark eyebrows that never required much maintenance, but the other day I decided to step up my game and purchase a little eyebrow assistant. After some research I came across Anastasia’s Brow Wiz which really seemed to be the best of the best. This dual-end miracle contains a super slim mechanical pencil on one side and a brush on the other. I purchased it in the darkest shade, brunette, and I am really loving how it enhances my brows!

I apologize for the poor camera phone quality before and after pictures. I promise to have much better pictures for you soon!

Like This…Try That! Volume 1

You may remember my good friend Andrew from a post he did back when we first launched the blog.  He is back for round 2...
Alexa
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello world! It is Andrew back with a quick pick for my song of the week.

Now let’s talk about Carly Rae Jepsen. You may know her from a little song known as “Call Me Maybe”? You know the one that basically went number one in like 20 different countries, spawned countless YouTube lip dubs videos and more right? Yep… THAT Carly Rae Jepsen. Well I am here to tell you to ditch “Call Me Maybe” on your playlists and replace it immediately with her brand new single featuring the boys of Owl City (aka the band that sang the number one hit “Fireflies”). The song is called “Good Time” it is an undeniable smash that really just makes you want to get up and dance or drive to the beach with this song on replay the whole gosh darn time. Enjoy it… before you hear it another 16,000 more times on the radio!

Now get out there pick up your damn iPods and best of all FIX YOUR WACK-ASS PLAYLIST! That is all.
