My makeup routine has been the same since I was in high school, subdued eye colors and a nude lip. While I’ve always admired bright pink lips and electric blue eye shadow, I’ve always felt out of place when wearing these colors. As I find myself at the start of my senior year in college, I’ve begun to open up to new things, one of which is reinventing my everyday makeup look. While the eyeshadow colors I’ve been using lately seem to change on a daily basis, one new element remains the same these days, and that is a bright red lip. Perhaps my inner Marilyn Monroe or Mae West is starting to emerge or maybe I’m just feeling more comfortable in my skin, but these days nothing makes me happier than a red lip. While I’ve been satisfied with Sephora’s “The Red,” lipstick, I am absolutely in love with the bright red lip gloss from this month’s October Glam bag, by Mirenesse. This lip gloss stays on for hours, even through eating and drinking. To compliment this vixen look, the bag also came with an amazing liquid eyeliner that resembles a magic marker, a mascara, ocean inspired eye colors and a hair treatment.
Like so many others, each year I look forward to my birthday. Not because I enjoy aging or even for the presents, but because of the little joys that come along with your big day – a special meal, birthday wishes from old friends and a trinket from Sephora.

When it comes to the lipgloss or lipstick that I use, I’ve gotta be honest, I’m a huge creature of habit. When I was sixteen I was introduced to the nude lip and ever since, I’ve been hooked. But just because my comfort zone lies in the land of nudes, that doesn't mean that I’m opposed to experimenting. A little while back I played with a red lipstick by Sephora and since that trial ended so successfully, I decided to try another bold look, the brown lip. Go ahead...take a minute. My initial vision of the brown lip was the same as someone wearing black lipstick, a little too bold for my taste. However, as was the case with the red lipstick, I kinda feel in love, specifically with Laura Mercier’s Quartz lipgloss. But lets be clear, just because I adore this look, does not mean that I condone wearing it everyday, I think that it should be saved for a special occasion, or just a special outfit. As well, if its going to be done, make sure that it is the focal point of your makeup that day, I suggest going for a more natural look for the rest of your face. I’m having a moment. Its silly really, I mean its a chap stick moment. I’ve been in lip care/color limbo ever since I ran out of my favorite lipstick: Sephora brand’s most amazing nude and blush color combination, appropriately dubbed “Glamour.” I ran out of this shade about a month ago but I still carry it around because I can't bear to part with it until I find a replacement. Enter Glamour’s replacement... Maybelline Baby Lips in Peach Kiss (Surprised? I was too!). While I know that Alyssa is a fan of Baby Lips (as mentioned in this previous post), I had yet to try the product until today. Basically, I was walking past the Maybelline display and I saw the purple colored container and it drew me in. Once I got closer I saw that not only was the shade nude, but it also had a fair amount of shimmer too. I decided to buy it, and after reapplying it multiple times, I have to say its rivaling Glamour!
It seems like every time I turn the TV on, there is a new commercial for a makeup product claiming to make your lashes thicker, lips more moisturized and skin younger looking. I usually don’t focus in on these commercial as I assume the claims are usually false. However, a few months ago a Maybelline commercial made my ears perk up. Maybelline was advertising a new tinted chap stick called Baby Lips. The commercial was so fun and colorful that it made me immediately want to try it out. But, when I went to several retailers in the surrounding area, it was nowhere to be found. After weeks of searching, I gave up and accepted the fact that I was not meant to have this chap stick.
Then, last weekend my sister surprised me with the ‘Cherry Me’ chap stick! Alexa found it at our local Walmart. I have used it twice so far, and I can say that I am a fan! I like how it moisturizes my lips (especially after how gnarly they get when running outside in the wind) and it has a tint of red. Perfect for all day and evening occasions.
As an exceptionally pale human being with dark hair, I’ve been told plenty of times to try red lipstick. Although I’ve always envied women with my skin and hair tones who indulge in this classic look, I’ve always hesitated in trying it myself. When I was in high school I fell in love with MAC’s lipgloss color “underage,” and ever since I’ve only craved nude colored lip glosses and sticks (to be fair, I did believe I was Bridget Bardot for a little while). So in an effort to get in touch with a new type of beauty, I decided to invest in a bright red lipstick by Sephora (The Red). The results were insane, in a matter of ten seconds I instantly felt classically beautiful. I mean I even contemplated breaking out my cheetah jacket and putting on every piece of diamond jewelry I own. Every woman should try red lipstick, believe me, you won’t be disappointed!
